”This painting is part of a series of works based loosely on a circus theme. I had the idea of old circus posters in mind. I wanted to portray the animals as tragic heroes.
” “An angel, decorative flourishes and a map.
” “Recently I been working on images that have been inspired by weathered, layered billboards, where several layers of text and image are exposed. This one especially reminds me of summer, carnivals and cotton candy.

This particular painting I decided to rework. In the process, the piece started to take a bit of a different meaning, and I decided while working on the piece that it was actually a piece about living with regret.
” “Recently I been working on images that have been inspired by weathered, layered billboards, where several layers of text and image are exposed. In this image, I began with several layers of collage, and thought it would be fun to try an image I had taken of a zoo rhinoceros. I left the rhinoceros half-painted, the paint drips on the back reminded me of Tang dynasty animals. There are also references to pop culture in the collaged and painted text in this work.

” “The tenth house refers to the zodiac sign of Capricorn. I liked the idea of this image of the woman playing violin somehow leading or luring the mythical creature.
” “After building a layer of collage material, I built numerous layers of text and pattern. I chose words that I felt were charged or emotional words, such as faith, doubt, belief, hope, etc. The hands in the painting are my own. I wanted to create a sense of longing, yet leave enough questions for the viewer so that it remains open for interpretation.
” “Recently I been working on images that have been inspired by weathered, layered billboards, where several layers of text and image are exposed. In this work, I think that we make decisions every day, which we feel we are free to make. But are we really free? Are we like the falcon that could fly away, any day if it
wanted, rather than catching its prey and returning? If we wanted, we
could choose to fly away today too, right?
This is a reworking from an old master painting, only here I removed the landscape background and replaced it with parts of an old cigar label.
” “what do you get if you cross a velociraptor and a bunny rabbit?
