A Moment for A. Richard Allen

Gay Street by A. Richard Allen

A. Richard Allen, Gay Street

A. Richard Allen is one of the most distinguished illustrators on TTP. His work is immediately recognizable from editorial and other illustration projects, partly because of his distinct lines and coloration, and partly because he never shies away from a subject – even if it’s difficult to illustrate.

As a result, his TTP collection is chock full of pieces that are trenchant and relevant to contemporary goings on. A piece on Mad Men? Sure. A piece called Gay Street, that lets me link to news about pride parade last weekend? Absolutely. And then, of course, there’s every blogger’s favorite Blog Puppet.

ARA is able to capture the point of a subject in his work without slopping on overhanded editorializations. And he’s able to do it with some humor, too. It’s no wonder he’s so decorated.
