Bendito Machine
Bendito Machine is an award-winning short by Jossie Malis done in Flash. I am a big fan of Flash animation and actually started my early career doing flash exclusively before the Dot Com Thud of ‘01.
About 99% of all Flash animations are garbage, but every once in a while I see some thing like this and it recharges my faith in the medium. Here’s why I love it: 1). the author did it out of love for the story, and not a paycheck (I presume) 2). it’s off-the-wall and open to interpretation and discussion 3). it overall attention to detail (design, composition, sound, motion, pacing, style) is immaculate 4). it’s epic, which is nearly impossible to do in Flash.
Enjoy it. I sure did.

Thanks for sharing! I also enjoyed it when I found Bendito Machine on coldhardflash(dot)com. I made a small attempt at creating a Flash animation myself since there are TONS of jobs out there for Flash artists. Do you think it’s essential for illustrators to know Flash animation right now? Or is it too late to get in to the game?

I stopped doing flash animations (narratives) because I found just the opposite to be true, there are less jobs for flash animators. However, web development (which will always use flash) is another story entirely, especially now. Web 2.0 and Ajax are changing the way clients want their websites to look and act. It’s never too late to get in the game, just play around with it and see where it takes you.

That video was wonderful.
Ahhhh Web 2.0 - I love using the creations from Web 2.0 to create with. I think many artsists (creative people - we all are - the whole planet). And with creations you give back. It gets used and recycled again.
This is one idea where everyone who is connected, whether through looking, reading, touching, listening, seeing, talking is playing the game. It’s a big organic form.
Cheers to all those in the game and those to come.
