Onze (Stefano Centonze) lives and works in Rome, where he was born in 1967. He holds a diploma in Painting from The Academy of Fine Arts (Rome) and has been publishing as an illustrator since 1988. In 1989, he began his regular collaboration with the newspaper Il Manifesto”.

Biography:

Onze (Stefano Centonze) lives and works in Rome, where he was born in 1967. He holds a diploma in Painting from The Academy of Fine Arts (Rome) and has been publishing as an illustrator since 1988. In 1989, he began his regular collaboration with the newspaper Il Manifesto”.

His works have been featured in Dolce Vita, Vanity, Rockstar, Gambero Rosso, Blue, Nessuno Tocchi Caino, Internazionale, Linea d'Ombra, Alias, Musica!!!, Bravacasa, Urban, Corriere della Sera, La Repubblica, Liberazione.
In 1998, he was the recipient of the award issued by Lo Straniero, Goffredo Fofi' s quarterly journal. In 1999 he became the illustrator for the monthly publication Fuoriluogo and in 2001 for the weekly Donnamoderna. His illustrations have also been used in advertising campaigns such as Roman Summer '98, Renault Clio (both by Saatchi & Saatchi), Toscano Immobiliare (by Young & Rubicam) and Noi Donne (by Ambrosio & Maloni). He is also the author of many illustrations for the bookcovers of novels and essays published by Mondadori and Feltrinelli.
He draws the bookcovers of the series Contromano by Laterza. In his illustrations Onze uses a wide range of techniques such as pencil, acrylic paint, collage, photography, paintbrush and computer. He always begins his works with a hand drawing on paper, even when he knows he will be using digital tools.
His work is influenced by Expressionism, Pop Art, comics as well as posters. In July 2009 the Institute of Italian Culture in Tokyo hosted an exhibition of his recent works.
